Hardcase with two-level organisation for work in the field

The portable Honda HS-1600 ultrasound travels with veterinarians directly to their patients, out on farms and in the field. Dust, moisture and rough handling are part of every working day. The sensitive LCD screen and delicate probe electronics cannot tolerate impacts or contamination. The brief was to build a case that handles all of that on the vet's behalf.

The challenge: Sensitive electronics in a harsh environment

The device goes to the patients, not the other way around. That means carrying, loading into vehicles, and working in dusty stables or wet conditions. At the same time, the vet needs an immediate overview of all equipment every time the case is opened.

Key requirements:

  • Protection for the ultrasound unit, two diagnostic probes and a spare battery.
  • Materials that are non-absorbent, chemically stable and easy to clean.
  • Zero movement of the device inside the case during transport.
  • Clear organisation of accessories without having to dig through the contents.

An interior where nothing goes to waste

We selected the MAX Cases MAX465H220 plastic hardcase for its impact resistance and its seal, which keeps out both water and fine dust. The interior was designed as a two-level organisation system.

Plastazote LD29 insert

The entire interior lining was CNC-milled from Plastazote LD29 foam. The material has a closed-cell structure: it does not absorb liquids, wipes down easily and resists disinfectants. In veterinary practice, those are not optional features.

The cutouts are shaped precisely for:

  • the ultrasound unit body,
  • two diagnostic probes,
  • a spare battery.

Every element sits without play. Nothing moves inside during transport.

Lid panel

The defining feature of this solution is an integrated panel inside the case lid, with a simple open-and-close mechanism. It divides the interior into two functional zones:

  • The lower section holds the main equipment, fixed precisely in the insert.
  • The space behind the panel stores the probe cover, cables or documentation.

We added a thin strip of Plastazote foam to the panel. When the case is closed, it gently presses the device against the insert, eliminating any movement even under significant impact.

The Result

The vet opens the case and immediately sees everything they need. The probes are protected, accessories have their place, and nothing falls out when opened in the field. A clean, organised workspace — even in the middle of a farm.
